On Saturday, Feb. 8, Simon J. Mitchell of the Meduxnekeag River Association led us on a snowshoe adventure through the Beardsley Hill preserve. This was my first visit to one of the NBNT preserves in the winter time. Simon proved to be a wealth of knowledge as he guided us along, pointing out all of the various tree species, including those that make up the Appalachian Hardwood Forest. He was also quick to point out many signs of wildlife along the way, including marks left by woodpeckers and bears, as well as some interesting prints left in the snow.
