Fall was a busy time for me, and after the inspiring visit to Chocolate Cove, I wanted to make time to visit a few places while the fall colours were still out. My dad joined me for a couple of expeditions on a drizzly Saturday in late October. We originally planned to make a repeat visit to Shogomoc Stream since it is a place I've painted before in fall colours. However, we got sidetracked by curiosity about the Pokiok Nature Park. Pokiok Stream turned out to be a spectacular place to visit with rushing water over shallow falls, many rock features, and late fall colours.
When we headed out from Pokiok, it was still early afternoon and Dad and I had the crazy notion of visiting Blueberry Hill Nature Preserve while the light and the weather was still holding up. It was about a 1 hour 15 minute drive from Pokiok. so we headed straight there. By the time we got there, we knew that we had limited time for good light, so we made a quick loop of the 1.3 km main trail.
The first thing that caught my eye was a stand of birch trees lining the edge of the trail head. The trail starts by crossing Henderson Brook over a newly constructed foot bridge and continues up along the side of an embankment and into the woods.

We very much enjoyed the diversity of the forest trees and undergrowth as we looped around the top of the hill on a nicely groomed trail.
At the northern end of the trail, we enjoyed some great views of Grand Bay. In a future visit, I would probably want to take more time to explore the shoreline.
The rain continued to drizzle, and we were starting to lose the best light. So after looking out over Grand Bay, we looped around and met the same two large pines on our way back out the trail.
